In my opinion, a good body scrub or exfoliator is the way to go to get rid of hyperpigmentation fast. I touched on exfoliation briefly in my previous post Celebrating Beautiful Black Skin. I believe exfoliation is the major key to minimizing the appearance of dark spots on the body. I am way too familiar with the struggle of having leftover marks from mosquito bites, chickenpox, and body acne.

Of course, having a clean, and healthy diet is effective over time. Most of us can relate to desiring that instant gratification. We want to wear swimsuits, shorts, dresses, and more with full confidence. I’ll share some exfoliators that have helped me on my journey to healthy glowing skin.

1. Best Body Scrubs for Hyperpigmentation

Benefits | Promote Cell Turnover | Unclog Pores | Prevents Ingrown Hairs | Removes Dead Skin Cells

Body scrubs typically consist of granules of salt, sugar, and coffee combined with some type of essential oil. You can easily DIY body scrub, or grab one at your local Drugstore.

One of the best, and my personal favorite body scrubs for hyperpigmentation is Tree Hut Moroccan Rose. I use it as a part of my maintenance routine once a week. Plus it smells amazing.

Body scrubs are an excellent go-to product to spruce up dull skin , and minimize hyperpigmentation.

2. Chemical Peel for Body

Benefits | Promote Cell Turnover | Reduces Acne Scarring and Hyperpigmentation | Prevent Ingrown hair | Unclogs Pores | Brightens Skin| Improves Crepe Skin | Repair Sun Damage | Stimulate Collagen Production | Removes Dead Skin Cells

The usage of chemical body peels for hyperpigmentation is an extreme exfoliation measure to get rid of hyperpigmentation. I only do a body peel on my body once or twice a year to remove stubborn dark marks. Expect to go through an ugly phase of peeling sheets of skin.

I highly recommend you seek a professional for this treatment as acids (Glycolic, Lactic, Salicylic, Mandelic, Phytic, Retinoic )are being utilized to remove layers of skin. However, if you can not afford the dermatologist, or esthetician price tag research heavily sites like Makeup Artist Choice and Platinum Skin Care.

⚠️Proceed with caution because you could yield results of beautiful glowing skin or third-degree burns. ⚠️

3. Exfoliating Body Lotion

Benefits | Promotes Cell Turnover | Retain Skin Moisture | Prevent Ingrown Hair | Treats Keratosis Pilaris | Removes Dead Skin Cells

Exfoliating body lotion is not as aggressive as the body peel mentioned previously. Unlike your usual lotion, exfoliating lotions contain alpha-hydroxy acids that encourage faster cell turnover. Good exfoliating lotion is a bit pricey, but I can usually catch a sale of Amlactin at Costco.

4. Exfoliating Towels

Benefits | Promotes Cell Turnover | Treats Keratosis Pilaris | Soften Skin | Remove Dead Skin Cells

The best exfoliating towels to use to get rid of hyperpigmentation are a Korean Italy Towel, or African Net Sponge. Though both can be used daily I only use the African net sponge regularly, as the Korean Italy towel can be a bit harsh if used correctly. The net sponge gives a nice lather with gentle exfoliation. Whereas You can literally see the dead skin roll off your body with the Korean Italy towel.

5. Exfoliating Gloves for Body

Benefits | Promotes Cell Turnover | Prevents Back and Chest Acne | Unclogs Pores | Encourages blood flow | Removes Dead Skin Cells

Do not sleep on exfoliating gloves! Gloves much like body scrubs are good for brightening up dull skin. I use these every single day. They get in every crevice if you know what I mean. The best thing about these bad boys is they are extremely cheap. I get about six pairs when I go to Dollar Tree. When they get a little janky just toss them.

6. Exfoliating Brushes

Benefits | Promotes Cell Turnover | Unclogs Pores | Increase Blood Circulation | Promote Lymph Flow and Drainage | Reduce Cellulite | Prevent Strawberry Legs | Collagen Production | Removes Dead Skin Cells

As you can tell exfoliants do more than just remove hyperpigmentation. Exfoliating brushes provide a deeper clean of the body, unclogging pores, and freeing trapped dirt and oil. If you suffer from cellu-booty, Haha! , ” cellulite” as I do you might find one of these tools useful.

7. Exfoliating Sponges

Benefits | Promotes Cell Turnover | Unclogs Pores | | Removes Dead Skin Cells

Sponges are a good alternative to washcloths. Loofahs can be used in your daily shower routine to gently sloth away dead skin cells.

8. Exfoliating Body Wash & Bar Soap

Benefits | Promotes Cell Turnover | Unclogs Pores | Fades Dark Spots and Hyperpigmentation | Prevents Ingrown Hairs | Removes Dead Skin Cells

We have to get clean anyway. Why not make exfoliating as simple as a bath or shower with one of these soaps? Once again acids are incorporated into the ingredients to encourage cell turnover. Now don’t go applying any of these to your lady parts. Check out some of the best exfoliating soaps for hyperpigmentation below.

STOP !!! Read Before You Purchase

While I have used all these products at some point in my skincare journey; I don’t advise you to go out and buy them all. I don’t want you out here over-exfoliating your skin and being worse off than you started. Start off slowly with a towel or body scrub, that might be all you need. Remember to do your own research.
